MVP MMA Case Study: Audience and Narrative Baseline Findings.
Deliverable 2 of 5. It tests the issue analysis ratings against search and Reddit data. Independent portfolio case study built only from public information; not affiliated with or endorsed by MVP or PFL.
Data. D1 is page one of Google for 15 queries (113 results). D2 is the top 50 comments in each of three r/MMA threads (150 comments). Both were captured on 2026-09-25 and coded by hand, with sample reviews approved. All findings are observational and not representative of the full fan base. Facts still come from P and S sources.
1. Bottom line
The data confirms Leadership (Issue 4) and the UFC narrative (Issue 3) at High likelihood. It raises "fighter-first" credibility (Issue 2) to High and keeps roster and fan integration (Issue 1) at Medium, with a new brand-name risk. The largest messaging opportunities are questions audiences search for that no company page answers: who owns the company, who runs it, what fighters are paid, and where to watch in 2027.
2. Findings by issue
Issue 4: Leadership (confirmed High).
- Search results still list Martin as CEO on three sources: Wikipedia, LinkedIn, and PFL's 2025 release. No company page names a successor [D1].
- 18 of 28 leadership comments are negative, and fans are supplying their own reasons for the exit [D2].
- Jake Paul reads as a net asset, usually with a caveat: 15 comments code Paul as an asset, 10 as mixed, and 5 as a liability [D2].
Issue 3: UFC narrative (confirmed High; the direction differs).
- The UFC comparison is the most common frame in search (19 of 96 results) and in comments (30 of 150) [D1, D2].
- Search coverage echoes Dana White's dismissal [D1], but fans mostly mock White. Talent flow does not appear in search, and fans expect it to run toward MVP [D1, D2].
Issue 2: "Fighter-first" (raised to High).
- The company owns 0 of 8 results for "PFL fighter pay," and June 2026 coverage of a $10,000 main-event purse leads the page. "MVP fighter-first" returns only results about Michael "Venom" Page [D1].
- The phrase appears in 0 of 150 comments. The few pay comments are favorable [D2]. The frame has an awareness problem, while the critical pay story is already indexed.
Issue 1: Roster and fan integration (confirmed Medium; new risk).
- Only 1 of 150 comments frames the merger as the loss of PFL. The concern that does appear is roster quality (6 comments) [D2].
- There are no owned answers for where to watch in 2027 or what happens to PFL. "MVP" collides with Michael "Venom" Page, the fighter nicknamed MVP [D1].
3. Messaging opportunities
| Opportunity | Evidence | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Ownership explainer | "Does Jake Paul own it?"-type questions appear in People Also Ask for 10 of 15 queries; no owned answer [D1] | Owned content; proof of structure |
| Named chief executive | CEO questions go unanswered; stale sources name Martin [D1] | Leadership page; spokesperson plan |
| Pay proof points | Pay questions appear in 6 of 15 queries; fans cite sponsor freedom favorably [D1, D2] | "Fighter-first" proof points: sponsor freedom [P9] and $40,000 minimum [P10], both MVP MMA 1 only until extended |
| Correct the Netflix assumption | 7 comments assume MVP MMA airs on Netflix in the U.S. [D2]; no U.S. partner is announced [P3, P4] | Use "U.S. partner to be announced" consistently |
| Let fans carry the UFC contrast | "Competition helps fighters and fans" is the leading positive frame [D2] | Avoid company rivalry claims (Issue 3 guidance) |
| Crossover FAQ and search identity | 2027 where-to-watch gap; brand-name collision [D1] | FAQ; pair "MVP MMA" with "Most Valuable Promotions" |
4. Rating changes (approved 2026-09-25)
| Issue | Change |
|---|---|
| 1. Roster and fan integration | Rating unchanged. Adds risk 6: the brand name collides in search. |
| 2. "Fighter-first" credibility | Likelihood raised from Medium to High. This is a judgment on mixed evidence: D1 supports it, while D2 shows no doubt expressed. |
| 3. UFC narrative | Rating unchanged. Risk 1 revised on talent flow. |
| 4. Leadership | Rating unchanged. Adds stale CEO listings and fan speculation. |
The priority order holds.
